| Background | Principal Names: GPCR5A; GPRC5A; RAI3; Retinoic acid induced 3 Protein; RAIG-1; PEIG-1; Retinoic acid induced gene 1 protein; G-protein coupled receptor, family C, member 5; Official Gene Symbol: GPRC5A Gene ID: 9052 (Human) Gene Map Locus: 12p13-p12.3 (Human) Retinoic acid plays a critical role in regulation of cellular growth, development and differentiation. RAI3, a 40KDa protein, is a novel member of Type 3 GPCR family which has been identified to be induced by Retinoic acid. It consists of a potential N-linked glycosylation site and putative 7 transmembrane domain motif and might be involved in interactions between retinoic acid and G-protein signaling pathways. Reports suggest it might play a major role in embryonic development and epithelial cell differentiation. Gene expression analysis revealed an up-regulation of RAI3 in tumor cell lines expressing mutant p53. RAI3 is transcriptionally repressed by p53 in normal cells. Northern Blot analysis detected a ubiquitous expression of RAI3 with highest expression in fetal and adult lungs. |
