Synthetic peptide surrounding Serine 116 of bovine eNOS.
Background Endogenous Nitric Oxide (NO) is a diffusible multifunctional second messenger that has been implicated in numerous physiological functions in mammals, such as blood vessel dilation, immune response and synaptic transmission enhancement. The NO is derived from L-arginine as the product of a complex enzymatic reaction catalyzed by a family of three NO synthase (NOS) proteins: nNOS (typeI),iNOS (Type II), eNOS (type III).The endothelial NOS (eNOS) plays a critical role in controlling vascular tone, platelet aggregation, and cardiac myocyte function. It is strongly expressed in malignant mesothelioma, but is not associated with expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors. This phenomenon is different from what has been shown in non-neoplastic endothelial cells.
