DEAD box proteins, characterized byThe conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative R helicases.They are implicated in a number of cellular processes involving alteration of R secondary structure, such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Based onTheir distribution patterns, some members ofThis family are believed to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.The protein encoded byThis gene is a component ofThe U5 snRNP complex; it may facilitate conformatiol changes inThe spliceosome during nuclear pre-mR splicing.
