Background of Vomeronasal type-1 receptor B3 (V1rb3) antibody

FUNCTION: Putative pheromone receptor implicated in the regulation of social and reproductive behavior. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. MISCELLANEOUS: Mice lacking all but one V1RA and V1RB gene (12% of the V1R repertoire) show a lack of chemosensory response to a subset of known pheromonal ligands and changes in maternal aggression as well as male reproductive behavior. NOTE: This gene was found (PubMed:11752409) to lack a conserved putative promoter and, therefore, may not be transcribed. Nevertheless, this product is a high titre antibody. Tested by ELISA, it specifically recognizes the immunising peptide. It would be very interesting to see whether or not the protein is indeed expressed.
